Too hot outside?❄️Escape with me to Antarctica.
What I learned about life, loss & letting go (Part 2).
Feven’s Travel Journal, June 2025 — Beyond the Ice: My Antarctic Expedition” — Part 2: Lessons 6–10
Hey You, Adventure-Trainee! 🗺️
Yes, I know… It’s summer, it’s hot, and your biggest expedition this week is to the freezer for another ice cube. 🧊 But hey, what better time to mentally escape to Antarctica?
Welcome back to my solo series “Beyond the Ice: My Antarctic Expedition.” If you missed the first five lessons (and want to know how penguins became my life coaches), catch up here.
Now, let’s dive into part 2. The final five lessons from my two-week, Wi-Fi-less, ice-filled adventure.
6️⃣ Don’t overthink, it’s never worth it.
There I was, standing on a floating continent, surrounded by glaciers and silence… and my brain still managed to run wild. “Should I have packed more socks?” “Is this how I die, frozen, with a chocolate bar in my pocket?” But you know what? Overthinking is just noise. Antarctica reminded me: the mind is loud, but the moment is louder, if you let it be.
7️⃣ The world doesn’t stop without you.
I turned off my phone. For two weeks. No emails, no DMs, no endless scroll of brunch posts. The world spun on fine without me. Turns out, being unavailable isn’t the end of the world. I wasn’t panicking, but I was just curious. Curious if I'm missing something big.
Spoiler: I wasn’t. Take the break. You’re still important, even when you're not plugged in.
8️⃣ We all share the same struggles, no matter where we come from.
Different countries, ages, and backgrounds brought together by a shared sense of adventure and a bit of seasickness.
Somehow, in the middle of nowhere, we all spoke the same language: curiosity, courage, and a craving for something bigger than ourselves. Antarctica stripped away the noise and reminded me: humans are human.
9️⃣ Life without expectations is... easier.
I expected to have an Eat-Pray-Love-in-an-iceberg moment every day. I didn’t. But once I dropped the pressure to make every second “life-changing,” The real beauty appeared in small, quiet, wild moments. Sometimes the lesson is: stop waiting for perfect. Just let it be.
🔟 Don’t judge a book by its parka.
I met a retired woman traveling solo for the first time since her husband passed away. She told me Antarctica had always been their dream, and now, she was living it for both of them.
Moments like that reminded me: everyone carries something unseen. Behind every face is a story. Give people and yourself the space to surprise you.
So that’s it, my 10 lessons from the bottom of the world. Solo travel is rarely about the place. It’s about what the place reflects to you. And Antarctica? It was like a frozen mirror, quietly inviting me to look deeper and not forget my gloves..
